XL98: "Not Enough Memory" Error Opening File from Excel 5.0 (188975)

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, when you open a file that was
created in an earlier version of Excel, you may receive the following error
message:
Not enough memory
And you are unable to open the file.
CAUSE
This error message may occur when both of the following conditions are
true:
- The file originated in a version of Microsoft Excel earlier than
Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
-and-
- The file is corrupted.
RESOLUTION
To open the file in Excel 98, follow these steps:
- Start Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0 on a computer other
than the computer where the file was created.
NOTE: If Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0 is not
available, you may instead use Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions
5.0, 7.0 or 97.
- Open the file.
- On the File menu, click Save.
- On the File menu, click Close.
You should now be able to open the file in Microsoft Excel 98.
