SYMPTOMS
If text is typed in Adobe Illustrator 88 versions 1.9.3 or 1.9.5, or Adobe
Illustrator 3.0 using an Adobe font, such as Futura or Optima, and the text
is then imported into Microsoft PowerPoint and printed to an Apple
PostScript LaserWriter, it will print in the Courier font.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because these versions of Illustrator 88 do not
export sufficient font information to instruct other applications to
download the Adobe font to the LaserWriter. Therefore, because the
font does not reside in the printer's memory and is not downloaded
with the print job, Courier is substituted.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Download the Font to the Printer
Download the font to the LaserWriter before printing. To do this, use the
Adobe Font Downloader program that is included with each Adobe font
package.
Method 2: Use the Font Somewhere Else in the Document
Type at least one character of the Adobe font in the document before
importing it from Illustrator.
Method 3: Try a Different Version of Adobe Illustrator
Use an earlier release of Illustrator 88, such as version 1.8.3, which
does not exhibit this problem.
NOTE: This problem occurs using either of the two methods of importing
text from Illustrator 88 to PowerPoint. These two methods are as
follows:
- Copying the text via the Clipboard with OPTION+Copy
- Saving the text as an Encapsulated PostScript file (EPSF)
