This article was previously published under Q188711 SYMPTOMS
When your computer tries to go to Standby mode, it may not enter Standby
mode immediately. After a delay, your computer may go to Standby mode, but
when you try to resume your computer, your computer may appear to stop
responding (hang).
CAUSE
This problem can occur if either of the following conditions exist:
- You are copying files from a CD-ROM at a command prompt when you try
to go to Standby mode.
- Your computer goes to Standby mode automatically while you are
copying files from a CD-ROM at a command prompt. For example, this can
occur due to a low battery or a critical battery alarm.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, restart your computer, and do not go to Standby
mode while you are copying files from a CD-ROM at a command prompt.
Instead, finish the file copy process, or quit it before your computer
goes to Standby mode.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98.
