WD98: Graphics Inserted as Hyperlinks Are Resized or Lost (188545)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q188545

SYMPTOMS

When you convert a Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition document to HTML, height and width changes to graphics are lost, and the graphic is resized to the exact size of the hyperlink in the linked document.

CAUSE

In Word 98 Macintosh Edition, certain images do not convert to GIF format when you convert Word documents to HTML. This problem does not occur in Internet Assistant 2.0.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Use a graphics program to make height or width changes to your graphic.

Method 2

Save your document as a Word document and then create a link from an HTML page. Because browsers can be configured to run a program when you link to a particular file format, you can specify Word or a program that uses the standard Internet Assistant/HTML format as the helper program. The helper program will run automatically when you link to the Word document.

NOTE: Word Internet Assistant/HTML is the standard cross-platform document format. This standard allows greater flexibility when you copy multiple graphic formats for display in most browsers.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
