OL98: Net Folders Subscriptions Updates Not Processed (188397)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 98

This article was previously published under Q188397

SYMPTOMS

You are using the Microsoft Outlook Net Folders component to share information with another user. The user reports that a mail message was received with the following text:
The message is a Net Folders control message. Normally you would not
see this message. This message will now be processed.

The mail message may have the Subject, "#Net Folders#."

CAUSE

The information in your shared Outlook folders changed and an update was sent in a mail message before the user with whom you are sharing information accepted the initial invitation.

RESOLUTION

Updates for shared Net Folders items are processed by the Rules Wizard. If the receiving user has not accepted the initial invitation to share information, the message described in the "Symptoms" section appears in the Inbox and is not processed.

To process the message and update the shared Outlook folders, follow these steps:

  1. The receiving user should accept your invitation to share information.
  2. After the invitation has been accepted and sent, the receiving user should double-click the mail message. This action causes the update sent after your original invitation to be processed.
  3. After the update is processed, the user should delete the mail message.

MORE INFORMATION

The Net Folders component depends on the sharing relationship between users who have sent and accepted invitations to share information. After this process is complete, the Rules Wizard evaluates the updates sent by mail transport and routes them appropriately. These updates are then transparent to the user.
