RAS Phonebook Entry Must Be Same in Internet Explorer (188388)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0a
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5
This article was previously published under Q188388 SYMPTOMS
When Outlook is started, it attempts to connect to the Small Business
Server (SBS) using an incorrect dial-up connection.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if the phonebook entry in Microsoft Internet Explorer is different than the phonebook entry Outlook. For example, the user has the following two phonebook entries:
- "Connect to ISP" for the Internet Service Provider.
- "Connect SBS" to connect to the mail on Small Business Server.
If Internet Explorer is set to dial the phonebook entry "Connect to ISP"
and Outlook dial-up networking properties has "Connect to SBS" as the
selected phonebook entry, when Outlook is started, it attempts to connect
using the dial-up connection "Connect to ISP" instead of using the "Connect
to SBS" option.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem and enable Outlook to use the "Connect to SBS"
entry, use the appropriate method:
- Set Internet Explorer to use the "Connect to the SBS" phonebook entry.
- Create a shortcut for the phonebook entries on the Windows desktop by double-clicking the phonebook entry appropriate for the intended connection and opening the application after connecting.
- In the Options dialog box on the Tools menu, click the General tab and Set up Outlook to "Prompt for a profile to be used."
