SYMPTOMS

After you resume your Toshiba Protege 300-series computer from Standby mode, you may be unable to gain access to your integrated drive electronics (IDE) CD-ROM drive, and Device Manager may display "Code 12" for your CD-ROM drive.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you resume your computer from Standby mode twice in the same session.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, restart your computer.

MORE INFORMATION

The IDE controller normally uses interrupt request (IRQ) 15, but when you resume your computer a second time, IRQ 15 is used by "Unknown Device."
