When you remove a PC Card or CardBus card from your computer, your
computer may stop responding (hang) or restart, or you may receive an
error message on a blue screen.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you remove the card without first stopping the
card in PC Card properties. Windows 95/98 and Windows Millennium Edition (Me) does not support the surprise removal of PC Cards or CardBus cards.
RESOLUTION
To prevent this behavior from occurring, stop the card before you remove
it from the computer. To do so, follow these steps:
- Double-click the PC Card icon on the taskbar.
- Click the card you want to remove, and then click Stop.
- Click OK when you are prompted to remove the card, and then click OK again.
MORE INFORMATION
The surprise removal of PC Cards or CardBus cards is not entirely handled
by Windows 95/98/Me. The card's driver determines whether or not the card
supports surprise removal.
