SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows 98 on a Cyrix MediaGX-based computer with an integrated display adapter, your display may work correctly, but you may receive the following error message whenever you restart your computer:
Your display adapter is not configured properly.

CAUSE

The behavior occurs because the integrated display adapter in the Cyrix MediaGX-based motherboard uses a proprietary driver that is not included in Windows 95/98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the most current version of display adapter driver for the integrated display adapter in your Cyrix MediaGX-based motherboard. To do so, obtain the most current version of display adapter driver from Cyrix, and then use the following steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  2. On the Settings tab, click Advanced, click the Adapter tab, click Change, click Next, click "Display a list of all drivers", click have disk, and then navigate to the disk with the driver for your display adapter.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish installing the new driver, and restart your computer when you are prompted.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue is specific to new installations of Windows 98, and does not occur if you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 95. When you upgrade from Windows 95, Setup keeps the existing display adapter driver.
