The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 98

This article was previously published under Q188114

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Banyan VINES 16-bit network client, you may receive error messages that reference any of the following files: Powrprof.dll, Version.dll, or Mprex.exe. You may also experience the following symptoms:
  • You cannot view Display properties.
  • You cannot view the Network icon in Control Panel.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because installing the 16-bit VINES client can cause the Windows 98 version of the Ver.dll file to be overwritten.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this problem from occurring, click No during the installation of the 16-bit VINES client when you are prompted to replace the Ver.dll file with an older version.

To resolve this issue after it occurs, extract a new copy of the Ver.dll file from your Windows 98 CD-ROM to the Windows\System folder and then restart your computer. For information about how to extract a file, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
