The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 98

This article was previously published under Q188089
NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

After you import items created in Eudora to the Outlook Address Book in Microsoft Outlook 98, you notice recipients that were defined in Eudora Nicknames are imported as individual items with strange entries consisting of shifted elements of the e-mail addresses in the Name field of both the Contacts and Address Book. The actual Nicknames, which Outlook users know as Groups, are converted.

CAUSE

Eudora uses only e-mail addresses in Nicknames, so Outlook uses the e-mail address elements to make a name for the Contact. Names must be manually entered in place of the incorrect names since the Eudora Nicknames uses only addresses.

RESOLUTION

An alternate method of converting addresses from the Eudora Nicknames list is to use the Import function of the Personal Address Book (PAB). To import using the PAB, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Import and Export.
  2. In "Choose an action to perform" click "Import Internet mail and addresses" and click Next.
  3. In "Select the Internet Mail Application to import from" click Eudora Pro and Light. Ensure that Import Address Book is selected. If you wish to also import messages from Eudora, click to select Import Mail. Click Next.
  4. In "Select the destination for imported addresses" click to select Personal Address Book. Click Finish.
