WD98: Error Message: Desktop Printer Unknown Error -192 (187901)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Word, or when you attempt to print a document, you may receive the following error message:
Desktop printer unknown error -192 at 18.

CAUSE

Error -192 is the Macintosh system error number for Resource Manager errors. This error means that a resource was not found or was damaged, and a corrupted print request was initiated.

RESOLUTION

Disable the Desktop Printer Spooler and Desktop PrintMonitor, restart your Macintosh, and then reenable them. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Apple menu, point to Control Panels, and click Extensions Manager.
  2. In Extensions Manager, click to deselect (clear the check marks for) Desktop Printer Spooler and Desktop PrintMonitor.
  3. Restart the Macintosh.

    NOTE: When the Macintosh restarts you may be prompted about a damaged print job. Click OK.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3, except in step 2 click to select (check) the items Desktop Printer Spooler and Desktop PrintMonitor.

STATUS

This problem occurs when you use Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition and System 7.5 or later.
