The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 for Macintosh
This article was previously published under Q187849 SYMPTOMS
When you use Internet Explorer 4.01 for Macintosh to open a Web Archive
document created with Internet Explorer 4.0 or 4.0a for Macintosh, you may
experience either of the following symptoms:
- If you have no windows open, you see a blank page.
- If you have a window open, there is no change (nothing happens).
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, use Internet Explorer version 4.0 or 4.0a
for Macintosh to browse Web Archive documents.
WARNING: The following procedure is not supported by Microsoft. It is
possible that problems resulting from the use of this procedure cannot be
resolved. Before you modify a Web Archive document using this method, you
should back up the Web Archive document.
You may be able to work around this problem by using HexEdit or a similar
third-party raw hexadecimal editor. Change the byte at offset 0B
(hexadecimal) in the Web Archive document from 01 to 02. The offsets begin
at 00 for the first byte. Offset 0B in hexadecimal is offset 11 in decimal
(in other words, the 12th byte). After you make this change, you should be
able to open the Web Archive document in Internet Explorer 4.01 for
Macintosh.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Internet Explorer version
4.01 for Macintosh.
MORE INFORMATION
When you are viewing a Web page, you can save the page as a Web Archive
document for later off-line browsing (without being connected to the
Internet).
