Macros can be used to send predefined messages or to perform IRC commands. For example, you can create a message macro that you use to send a predefined message many times without retyping the message each time.

To Create a Message Macro

To create a message macro, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, point to Macros and then Click Define Macro.
  2. On the General tab in the Key Combination box, click to select the key combination that you want to use to run the macro.
  3. In the Name box, type a name for the macro.
  4. In the large unnamed box in the Macros section, type the message that you want to send. For example:

    Where are you from

  5. Click Add Macro.

    NOTE: You must click Add Macro to save any changes that you make to the Macro list.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 to create additional macros.
  7. Click OK.

To Create a IRC Command Macro

To add a IRC command to a Macro, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, point to Macros and then Click Define Macro.
  2. On the General tab in the Key Combination box, click to select the key combination that you want to use to run the macro.
  3. In the Name box, type a name for the macro.
  4. In the large unnamed box in the Macros section, type the IRC command with any required variables. For example:

    /action looks at you and smiles!

  5. Click Add Macro.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 to create additional macros.
  7. Click OK.

How to Use Macros

To use a message macro use any of the following methods:

  • Press the key combination ALT+<number> for the macro that you want to use, where <number> is 0-9.
  • Right-click a chat member in the user list, point to Macros, and then click the macro that you want to use.
  • Click a chat member in the user list, point to Macros on the View menu, and then click the macro that you want to use.
For information about IRC commands, click Content And Index on the Help menu in Microsoft Chat, click the Index tab, type "IRC" (without quotation marks), click "IRC Command Reference" and then click Display.

For information about pre-defined keyboard shortcuts, click Help Topics on the Help menu in Microsoft Chat, click the Index tab, type "keyboard shortcuts" (without quotation marks), and then click Display.
