Err Msg: Picture.exe Is Linked to Missing Export Dll: Mfc42.dll (187794)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Picture It! Express, you may receive the following error message:
Picture.exe is linked to missing export DLL: MFC42.DLL.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if an incorrect version of the Mfc42.dll file is installed, or if the Mfc42.dll file is missing or damaged.

NOTE: The software provided with the Kodak DC-120 camera replaces the Mfc42.dll file with a version of the file that does not work with Picture It! Express.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reinstall the correct version of the Mfc42.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type mfc42.dll, and then click Find Now.
  3. In the list of found files, right-click each Mfc42.dll file, and then click Rename.
  4. Type mfc42.old, and then press ENTER.
  5. Repeat steps 3-4 until you have renamed every file in the list of found files.
  6. Close the Find: Files Named Mfc42.dll dialog box.
  7. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  8. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  9. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Plus! 98, and then click Add/Remove.
  10. Click Uninstall, and then click Next.
  11. When you are prompted to confirm you want to uninstall Plus! 98, click Yes.
  12. When you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.
  13. Reinstall Plus! 98.
