PUB98: Send Feature Doesn't Work with Outlook Express (187768)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 98

This article was previously published under Q187768

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Send feature in Publisher 98 to send your publication through E-mail, and if your default mail client is Outlook Express, you will receive the following error message:
Publisher cannot mail your publication. Please make sure that your network is connected.
When you click OK, you will be returned to Publisher and your publication will not be sent.

CAUSE

You cannot use Outlook Express with the Publisher 98 Send feature.

Publisher 98 can, however, use other Simple Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) clients such as Microsoft Outlook 98.

WORKAROUND

If you have another E-mail client installed on your system such as Outlook 98, you can disable Outlook Express as your default Simple MAPI client and use your other client.

To disable Outlook Express as your Simple MAPI client, follow these steps:
  1. Start Outlook Express.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. On the General tab, click to clear the "Make Outlook Express my default Simple MAPI client" check box, and click OK.
  4. Close Outlook Express and restart your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
