SUMMARY

This article describes how to set up a network of chat servers.

MORE INFORMATION

A network of chat servers is a collection of Internet Relay Chat (IRC) servers grouped together. When Microsoft Chat attempts to log on to several servers at once, the log on is completed on the server that responds first, usually the fastest server in the group.

To create a network of chat servers, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Servers tab.
  3. In the Network box, type a name for the network and then click Add Network.
  4. In the Servers box, type the name of a chat server and then click Add.
  5. Click to select the server, under Advanced Settings click the port setting for the chat server and then depending on your connection type (log on), either type your IRC username and password in the Username and Password boxes, or click "No password, if possible."

NOTE: Contact the owner of the IRC server to determine which port and log on type to use.
  6. Repeat steps 3 and 5 for each server that you want to add to the network.
  7. Click OK.
