OFF98: Embedded Sound Files Aren't Played When Double- Clicked (187736)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
- Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q187736 SYMPTOMS
In the programs listed at the beginning of this article, when you play an
embedded QuickTime sound file, the QuickTime controller appears but then
disappears, and you cannot play the file.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you double-click the filmstrip icon on the
embedded QuickTime sound file.
NOTE: This behavior is different from the behavior for embedded QuickTime
movie files, which are played when you double-click them. This problem
occurs only when you attempt to play sound files that have been converted
to QuickTime sound files.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, click the filmstrip icon on the embedded
QuickTime sound file once. This causes the QuickTime controller to appear.
Or, double-click any area of the embedded QuickTime sound file that is not
the filmstrip. This causes the sound file to be played.
STATUS
This behavior is by design in the Microsoft products listed at the
beginning of this article.
