This article was previously published under Q187733 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to transfer a file from one computer to another computer
using an infrared (IR) connection, you may receive the following error message:
The recipient device is not ready to receive. Please make sure
Infrared Transfer is enabled on the receiving device.
This error message may occur even though Infrared Transfer is enabled on
the receiving computer.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the minimum transmission speed for the IR
device on one computer is lower than the minimum transmission speed for
the IR device on the other computer. For example, you may receive the
error message if the minimum transmission speed for the IR device on one
computer is 2400 bits per second (bps), but the minimum transmission speed
for the IR device on the other computer is 9600 bps.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98.
MORE INFORMATION
To enable Infrared Transfer, right-click Infrared Recipient in My
Computer, and then click Enable Infrared Transfer.
