When you attempt to copy a file to a compressed folder or delete a file
from a compressed folder, you may receive the following error message:
Cannot create output file.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the compressed folder resides inside another
compressed folder.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, extract the compressed folder to the desktop,
copy or delete the file you want, and then drag the extracted folder to
the parent compressed folder.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Double-click the parent compressed folder.
- Click the compressed folder into which you want to copy the file or
from which you want to delete the file.
- On the File menu, click Extract, and then click Browse.
- In the Browse For Folder window, click Desktop, and then click OK.
- Click Next, and then click Finish.
- Close the parent compressed folder.
- Copy the file to or delete the file from the extracted folder on the
desktop, and then close the extracted folder.
- Drag the extracted folder to the parent compressed folder.
- When you are prompted to replace the existing file, click Yes.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98,
version 1.0.
MORE INFORMATION
When you follow these steps, a duplicate copy of the extracted folder
remains on the desktop. To delete the duplicate folder, drag it to the
Recycle Bin.
