SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to delete a folder with a name that includes an extension from inside a compressed folder, the folder is not deleted and you receive the following error message:
Nothing to do.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, extract the remaining files and folders in the compressed folder to the desktop, delete the compressed folder, create a new compressed folder, and then copy the extracted files and folders to the new compressed folder.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open the compressed folder.
  2. Press and hold down the CTRL key, and then click each file and folder inside the compressed folder except for the folder with the name that includes an extension.
  3. On the File menu, click Extract, and then click Browse.
  4. In the Browse For Folder window, click Desktop, and then click OK.
  5. Click Next, and then click Finish.
  6. Close the compressed folder.
  7. Right-click the compressed folder, and then click Delete.
  8. Right-click the desktop, point to New, and then click Compressed Folder.
  9. Drag the extracted files and folders to the new compressed folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98, version 1.0.

MORE INFORMATION

When you follow these steps, duplicate copies of the extracted files and folders remain on the desktop. To delete the duplicate files and folders, drag them to the Recycle Bin.
