This article was previously published under Q187676

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to copy a file to an uncompressed folder located inside a compressed folder, the file is copied to the parent compressed folder, not the folder into which you want to copy the file.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, extract the uncompressed folder into which you want to copy the file to the desktop, copy the file to this folder, and then drag the extracted folder to the parent compressed folder.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Double-click the parent compressed folder.
  2. Click the folder into which you want to copy the file.
  3. On the File menu, click Extract, and then click Browse.
  4. In the Browse For Folder window, click Desktop, and then click OK.
  5. Click Next, and then click Finish.
  6. Close the parent compressed folder.
  7. Copy the file to the extracted folder on the desktop.
  8. Drag the extracted folder to the parent compressed folder.
  9. When you are prompted to replace the existing file, click Yes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98, version 1.0.

MORE INFORMATION

When you follow these steps, a duplicate copy of the extracted folder remains on the desktop. To delete the duplicate folder, drag it to the Recycle Bin.
