SYMPTOMS

When you click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Multimedia, and then click CD Player, you may receive the following error message:
The item "Cdplayer.exe" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if a shortcut to CD Player (Cdplayer.exe) is located in both the Entertainment and Multimedia folders on the Start menu, and you remove CD Player using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, manually remove the shortcut to CD Player in the Multimedia folder. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then point to Accessories.
  2. Right-click CD Player, and then click Delete.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98 and Windows 99 Second Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

If you have an Entertainment folder and Multimedia folder on the Start menu, a shortcut to CD Player is added to both folders when you install CD Player. If you remove CD Player using the Add/Remove Programs tool, only the shortcut in the Entertainment folder is removed.
