This article was previously published under Q187606 SYMPTOMS
When you view the History.txt file, you may notice that the title for a
report you uploaded using the Windows Report Tool utility (WinRep.exe)
does not match the title you specified. Instead, the title displayed in
the History.txt file matches the first words of the report's problem
description.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because Windows Report Tool references the first
50 characters of the problem description for its default title. A support
provider's Web site may prompt you to enter a title for the report, and
the title you enter replaces the default title when the report is
uploaded. However, it does not replace the default title recorded in the
History.txt file.
STATUS
Microsoft has determined this to be a problem with Windows 98.
MORE INFORMATION
The Windows Report Tool is an Internet-based information gathering tool
that is installed with Windows 98. This tool provides a means for
uploading system information to a support provider for diagnosis.
With Windows Report Tool, you can submit problem reports over the Internet
to a technical support center, or across an intranet to a corporate
helpdesk. The problem report includes system data and can include
configuration files. To use this tool, you connect to a Web page, and
then, using an ActiveX control and scripting, the Windows Report Tool is
started on your computer.
The Windows Report Tool maintains a history of the reports it uploads in
the History.txt file on your computer. The History.txt file is located in
the Windows\HelpDesk\WinRep folder.
