Default Gateway Designated on SBS Not Needed (187521)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0a
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0
This article was previously published under Q187521 SYMPTOMS
During the installation of Small Business Server 4.0 or 4.0a, a static IP address is assigned to the server as well as a default gateway. These address assignments are for the internal network use.
Because a connection to an Internet service provider (ISP) is made through Proxy Server, the default gateway setting is considered a dead gateway and is not necessary. These settings can be changed manually after the successful installation; however, they cannot be changed or removed during installation.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0 and 4.0a.
