XL97: Wrong Folder Displayed in Save As Dialog Box Quitting Excel (187479)

SYMPTOMS

When you quit Microsoft Excel, you may be prompted to save a file. But when the Save As dialog box appears, the current folder is your default file location instead of the folder from which you opened the file.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You quit Microsoft Excel.

    -and-
  • You click Save when you are prompted to save your file.

    -and-
  • You have set the default save format for Excel files to a setting other than Microsoft Excel Workbook.

    -and-
  • You used the recently used file list on the File menu to open the file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
