Desktop Themes Are Not Restored When Windows 98 Is Uninstalled (187344)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q187344 SYMPTOMS
When you uninstall Windows 98, your Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95 desktop
themes are not restored.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Windows 98 includes all the desktop themes
that are included in Plus! for Windows 95. During Windows 98 Setup, the
desktop themes are converted to the Windows 98 format. Since the desktop
themes are now part of Windows 98, they are removed from your computer
when you uninstall Windows 98.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, reinstall the Desktop Themes component from the
Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95 CD-ROM. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-
click Add/Remove Programs.
- On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Plus! For Windows 95,
and then click Add/Remove.
- Click Add/Remove.
- Click the Desktop Themes check box to select it, and then click
Continue.
