SYMPTOMS

When you use the NET USE command to delete a mapped network drive, you may receive the following error message:
The drive letter you specified is the current drive of a command prompt. Be sure the drive you are trying to delete is not the current drive in any of your sessions.

Do you want to continue this operation? (Y/N) [N]:

This behavior occurs even though no other command prompt is currently using the mapped network drive that you are attempting to delete.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, type y, and then press ENTER to delete the mapped network drive.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem Microsoft Windows 98.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior can occur after you use the XCOPY command to copy files from the mapped network drive.
