PUB98: Publisher Setup Doesn't Detect Earlier Version (187260)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q187260 SYMPTOMS
The first time you run the Microsoft Publisher 98 Setup program, it will attempt
to detect if you have an earlier version of Publisher installed on your computer
and it will ask you if you would like to remove it. If you click No the Setup
program will leave the earlier version of Publisher and install Publisher 98. If
you then uninstall and reinstall Publisher 98, the Setup program will no longer
detect any earlier version of Publisher. Therefore, it will no longer ask you if
you would like to remove it, even if an earlier version is still installed.
CAUSEWORKAROUND
To remove Publisher 95 or Publisher 97 from your computer after installing
Publisher 98, rerun the Setup program for the version of Publisher you want to
remove. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- From the list of installed programs, click Publisher 95 or Publisher 97,
and then click Add/Remove. If Setup prompts you to insert the compact disc,
insert it into your CD-ROM drive.
- In the Maintenance Mode Setup dialog box, click Remove All.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
