Unable to Install Bay Networks Site Manager Version 5.01r2 (187236)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Bay Networks Site Manager version 5.01r2, you may receive the following error message:
Setup has detected that you are running a version of Windows that already includes the updated files or enhancements you are attempting to install. For more information, click Details. Click Cancel to Return to Windows 98.

When you click Details, you may receive the following message:
Important: Do not install Windows 95 over Windows 98. If you do, neither version of the operating system will be useable. You can return to Windows 95 only if you upgraded to Windows 98 from Windows 95 and saved your Windows 95 system files.

CAUSE

Windows 98 detects the Bay Networks Site Manager Setup program as Windows 95 Setup. Windows 98 is designed to protect itself from becoming unstable by blocking any attempt to install Microsoft Windows 95.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, contact Bay Networks Technical Support for assistance.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98.
