Unable to end the System File Checker task using CTRL+ALT+DELETE (186977)

SYMPTOMS

When you start the System File Checker tool, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, click System File Checker, and then click End Task, you may receive the following error messaage:
SFC caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff7a115.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, quit System File Checker normally by clicking Close or by pressing ALT+F4 instead of by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 98.
