XL98: Bookmark Is Not Followed When Clicking a Hyperlink (186948)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 98, when you click a hyperlink that is linked to a bookmark on a Web page, the Web page is displayed, but the hyperlink fails to find the bookmarked topic on the Web page.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

In a workbook, you click a hyperlink that references a bookmark on a Web page. -and-
The case of the bookmark name specified in the hyperlink is different from the case of the bookmark name on the Web page.

By design, bookmarks in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 and 4.0 are case sensitive.

WORKAROUND

For the Web page to be properly displayed, change the case of the bookmark name specified in the hyperlink so that it matches the case of the bookmark name in Web page. To change the bookmark name in a hyperlink in a workbook, follow these steps:

Press and hold down the CONTROL key. Position the mouse pointer over the cell or object that contains the hyperlink. Press and hold the mouse button.
On the displayed shortcut menu, point to Hyperlink, and then click Edit Hyperlink. Release the mouse button and the CONTROL key.
In the Edit Hyperlink dialog box, move the insertion point to the Named Location In File box. Change the case of the bookmark in this box so that it matches the case of the bookmark on the Web page.
