XL97: Chart Is Reduced to a Small Size After Formatting Legend (186931)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q186931 SYMPTOMS
When you change the formatting of a chart in Microsoft Excel 97 for
Windows, the chart may be reduced to a tiny size.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
- You create a chart.
-and-
- You manually reposition the legend on the chart by using the mouse
pointer.
-and-
- You then move the legend to the corner by clicking Chart Options on the
Chart menu, clicking the legend tab, and clicking Corner under
Placement.
NOTE: This behavior occurs more often when you format a round chart, such
as a pie chart.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do not choose the corner placement of the
legend after you manually move the legend on the chart. You may be able
to resize the chart in some cases. To resize the chart, follow these steps:
- Click once on the chart's plot area.
Eight resizing handles appear around the plot area.
- Drag the resizing handles until the chart is resized.
NOTE: In some cases, you must re-create the chart to work around this
problem.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97 for
Windows.
MORE INFORMATION
The amount by which the chart is reduced depends on the amount of data the
chart represents. The more data that must be represented, the smaller the
chart appears.
