This article was previously published under Q186910 SYMPTOMS
If your computer is configured to automatically power off when you shut
down Windows 98, the "It's now safe to turn off your computer" message may
be displayed briefly on your screen before your computer powers off.
CAUSE
This behavior is a result of the new Fast Shutdown functionality in
Windows 98. When you shut down Windows 98 on a computer that supports
Advanced Power Management (APM), the Windows 98 shutdown screen (Logo.sys)
is displayed at the same time APM procedures are being processed.
STATUS
This behavior is by design and does not result in loss of functionality.
