Usage of NTFS 5.0 Junctions in the Sysvol Folder (186750)

Windows 2000 includes NTFS "junctions." Junctions graft the namespace (any bounded area in which a given name can be resolved) of the target file system location into an NTFS volume. An underlying "reparse point" allows NTFS to transparently remap an operation to the target object. Users and programs need to be aware of NTFS junctions when they perform namespace-walking operations.

The following folder structure is a sample folder structure on a Windows 2000 domain controller. This sample is rooted at the %SystemRoot%\Sysvol folder, and contains the following junction points:

Staging Areas\Enterprise	<Junction> = Staging\Enterprise
Sstaging Areas\<DNS domain name>	<Junction> = Staging\Domain
Sysvol\Enterprise	<Junction> = Enterprise
Sysvol\Pss-nt5.microsoft.com	<Junction> = Domain
