This article was previously published under Q186678

SYMPTOMS

Pictures, clip art, WordArt, floating text, and any drawing objects that are created with the Drawing toolbar do not appear when you use a user- defined chart type.

NOTE: This problem occurs even when the user-defined chart originally contained the object when you added it to the list of available user- defined charts in Microsoft Excel.

CAUSE

Microsoft Excel 97 does not save graphic objects with user-defined charts.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, add drawing objects to the chart after you create the chart.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

When you add drawing objects to a chart sheet or to an embedded chart on a worksheet and then save that chart as a user-defined chart, the drawing objects are not saved with the chart. This problem occurs even if you initially see the drawing objects in the chart preview.

Drawing objects that are not saved with a user-defined chart include: bitmaps, clip art, WordArt, floating text, and any drawing items created with the Drawing toolbar.
