STOP 0x00000044 When Running Wait.Exe (186345)

SYMPTOMS

Running several instances of Wait.exe from the Windows NT Resource Kit may cause a blue screen error message in Beep.sys with following STOP error message:

0x00000044 (0x80c52ba8)

CAUSE

Beep.sys is not multiprocessor safe.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To work around this problem, do not run several instances of Wait.exe, or, instead, use Sleep.exe.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
