IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Save As HTML command to export a Microsoft Access object to HTML, you have the option on the final page of the "Publish to the Web Wizard" to run the Web Publishing Wizard. When you select this option and click Next, you may receive the following error message
ActiveX component can't create object
and the Web Publishing Wizard quits.

NOTE: The Web Publishing Wizard is available in the ValuPack\Webpost folder of the Microsoft Office 97 CD or from the Microsoft Web site. The wizard is used to automate the process of copying files from your hard disk to a Web server.

CAUSE

You have installed a version of the Web Publishing Wizard that is newer than the version provided on the Office 97 CD without installing the version on the CD first. The newer version of the Web Publishing Wizard creates the incorrect keys in the Windows Registry if installed without a prior install of the Web Publishing Wizard from the Office 97 CD.

RESOLUTION

You can insert the correct keys into the Windows Registry by using two different methods.

NOTE: It is only necessary for you to use one of these solutions. Do not use both.

Solution 1

The Wpwreg.exe file contains a registry file that, when run, will add the correct registry keys to the Windows Registry on your computer. The Web Publishing Wizard will then run correctly.

The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
The WPWREG.EXE file contains the following files:
WPObj.reg A registry file to create to correct registry keys.
readme.txt A file explaining the use of WPObj.reg.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

To use the WPObj.reg file, follow these steps.
  1. Download the file listed above to a temporary folder on your computer, and then in the Windows Explorer, double-click the file to expand it.
  2. In the same folder, double-click the WPObj.reg file to update the Windows Registry.
Your registry will now be updated with the key needed to successfully run the Web Publishing Wizard.

Solution 2

You can install the Web Publishing Wizard provided on the Office 97 CD, and then re-install the newer version of the wizard, which can be downloaded from Microsoft's Web site.

Installing the Web Publishing Wizard from the Office 97 CD

To install the Web Publishing Wizard from the Office 97 CD, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Office 97 CD and open the Valupack\Webpost folder.
  2. Run the Webpost.exe program file and follow the instructions.

STATUS
