The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 for Sun Solaris

This article was previously published under Q186288

SYMPTOMS

When you delete mail storage (.idx and .mbx) files or the Windows Address Book (.wab) file, Microsoft Outlook Express may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you delete mail storage files while Outlook Express is running. For example, a system administrator may delete these files while users are running Outlook Express. Outlook Express for Sun Solaris does not lock the address book and mail storage files.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, make sure that no users are running Outlook Express when you delete mail storage files.
