This article was previously published under Q186252 SYMPTOMS
When you click New on the File menu in any of the Microsoft Office 98
Macintosh Edition programs, you may see the following message:
Please insert the disk:
Microsoft Office 98
If you click Cancel, you will see the same message. However, if you click
Cancel again, the message will go away and the New dialog box will be
displayed.
CAUSE
You may see the message described in the "Symptoms" section if you
installed the Business Tools and Templates component of the Value Pack on
the Microsoft Office 98 CD. When you install this component, an alias
called Business Guide Start is copied to your Microsoft Office
98:Templates:Business Tools folder, and this alias is pointing to a file on
the CD.
RESOLUTION
To prevent this message from appearing when you click New on the File menu,
follow these steps:
- Open the Microsoft Office 98:Templates:Business Tools folder on your
hard disk.
- Move the Business Guide Start alias to the Trash.
- Open the Microsoft Office 98:Templates:Business Tools:Guide folder on
your hard disk.
- Click once on the icon for frameset.htm, to select the item.
- On the File menu, click Make Alias.
This will create an item called "frameset.htm alias" (without the
quotation marks). - Drag "frameset.htm alias" to the Microsoft Office 98:Templates:Business
Tools folder.
- Rename "frameset.htm alias" to "Business Guide Start" (without the
quotation marks).
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
