When you change the Preferred Size memory setting for any of the programs
listed at the beginning of this article, the number you enter may
unexpectedly increase by about 4000K.
CAUSE
You may experience the behavior described in the "Symptoms" section if all
of the following are true:
- You are using OS 8.0 or OS 8.1.
-and-
- You have Virtual Memory turned off.
-and-
- You change the Preferred Size memory setting for the first time.
NOTE: This problem can occur with Power Macintosh programs other than those
listed at the beginning of this article. The Finder manages the Info dialog
box for programs and is changing the value that you enter by the amount
listed in the Note at the bottom of the window.
RESOLUTION
If the Preferred Size memory setting unexpectedly changes, retype the value
that you entered before it changed. You will only have to do this once
because it will not automatically change again.
STATUS
This problem occurs when you use Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition or
Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition and Apple Macintosh OS 8.x.
