XL98: Pressing Spacebar does not Display Office Assistant Balloon (186248)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q186248

SYMPTOMS

When you press the spacebar while a Wizard dialog box is open, the Office Assistant balloon does not appear.

CAUSE

The Office Assistant balloon does not appear when you press the spacebar because the Wizard dialog box always has the focus.

RESOLUTION

To display the Office Assistant balloon when a Wizard dialog box is open, click once on the Office Assistant.

STATUS

This is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

When a Wizard dialog box is displayed, you can get help from the Office Assistant by clicking the ? (question mark) in the lower-left corner of the Wizard dialog box. The Office Assistant will then display a balloon asking if you want assistance with the wizard. If you then press the spacebar, this balloon will disappear. However, pressing the spacebar will not make the balloon reappear. This behavior is different than that for Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows.
