OFF98: Memory Settings Incorrect in About This Computer Dialog Box (186067)

When you view the memory settings in the About This Computer dialog box,
the value listed for Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition programs may be
less than the Preferred Size setting for the programs. Usually, this value
will be no higher than 28 megabytes (MB).
NOTE: This may also occur for programs other than those included with
Microsoft Office.
CAUSE
The value listed in the About This Computer dialog box may be incorrect if
both of the following are true:
- You are using RAM Doubler 2.
-and-
- You have the Preferred Size of your program set to 29000 K or higher.
RESOLUTION
There are two ways to resolve this problem.
Turn on Virtual Memory
If you use Virtual Memory to manage the memory on your computer, you will
not encounter this problem. To turn on Virtual Memory, follow these steps:
- On the Apple menu, point to Control Panels, and then click Memory.
- In the Memory control panel, click the On option for Virtual Memory.
- Close the Memory control panel.
- Restart your computer.
When you restart your computer, an alert will warn you that RAM Doubler has
been disabled.
Change the Minimize Size Setting
If you set the Minimize Size equal to the Preferred Size for your program,
you will not encounter this problem. To do this, follow these steps:
- Quit the program if it is running.
- Locate and select the icon for the program.
- Press Command+I to display the Info window for the program.
- Change the value in the Minimize Size edit box so that it equals the
value currently displayed in the Preferred Size edit box.
- Close the Info window.
- Restart your program.
STATUS
This problem occurs when you use Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition
programs and RAM Doubler 2.
