SYMPTOMS

If you perform an advanced search in the Search dialog box (click Open on the File menu and then click Find File), the search results may not list certain files. This is true even though the files meet the criteria for the search.

CAUSE

Your search may not list files that meet the specified criteria if any of the fields in the Properties dialog box (click Properties on the File menu) are greater than 255 characters.

RESOLUTION

To ensure that all files that meet your criteria are found in the Search dialog box, limit the text for all fields of the file properties to 255 characters or less.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
