Serial Pointing Device Disabled After Uninstalling IntelliPoint (185935)

SYMPTOMS

When you uninstall the IntelliPoint software version 2.2 on a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer, your serial pointing device may no longer work.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the default Windows NT mouse drivers are not reenabled when the IntelliPoint drivers are removed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, enable the default serial mouse driver in Windows NT. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Press CTRL+ESC to open the Start menu.
  2. Press the UP ARROW key to select Settings.
  3. Press the RIGHT ARROW key to select Control Panel, and then press ENTER.
  4. Use the ARROW keys to select Devices, and then press ENTER.
  5. Use the ARROW keys to select Serial Mouse Driver, and then press ALT+R.
  6. Use the UP ARROW to select System in the Startup Type box, and then press ENTER.
  7. Press ENTER to close the Devices tool.
  8. Press CTRL+ESC, use the ARROW keys to select Shut Down, and then press ENTER.
  9. Use the ARROW keys to select Restart The Computer, and then press ENTER.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft IntelliPoint Software version 2.2 and Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0.
