To uninstall Winsock version 2.0 to restore the original Winsock version 1.x configuration, use the following steps:

NOTE: Some programs may not function correctly if Winsock 2.0 is uninstalled.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Click Restore Winsock 1.x Configuration, click Add/Remove, and then click Yes.
Windows 98 installs Winsock 2.0 by default. The option to restore Winsock 1.x is available only if Windows 98 is installed as an upgrade over Windows 95 with Winsock 1.x.
