SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to view the settings for a device in the Multimedia tool, driver information may be displayed instead of the settings for the device.

For example, if you click a device on the Advanced tab in the Multimedia Properties dialog box, click Properties, and then click Settings, the following information may be displayed:

Creative Audio Driver (English)
Version 4.31.00
Copyright (c) Creative Technology Ltd 1994-1996
Audio Driver Team

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you are using Sound Blaster or Sound Blaster- compatible sound card drivers, and you attempt to view the settings for a device located under any of the following branches:
  • Audio Devices
  • MIDI Devices and Instruments
  • Mixer Devices
  • Line Input Devices

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, view the settings for your sound card using Device Manager. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click System, and then click the Device Manager tab.
  3. Double-click the Sound, Video, And Game Controllers branch to expand it, click your sound card, and then click Properties. Each tab displays different settings for your sound card.
