OL98: ErrMsg: "File must be opened in ECCO" When Importing (185812)

SYMPTOMS

When importing an ECCO 4.01 database into Microsoft Outlook 98, you may receive the following error:
The file C:\PROGRA~1\ECCO\<Filename>.ECO must be opened in ECCO before the import can proceed. Click OK when ECCO is ready or Cancel if the file was not opened.
<Filename> represents the name of the file you are trying to import into Outlook.

NOTE: The above error still occurs if you have ECCO open while importing.

CAUSE

You are trying to import an ECCO 4.01 database file into Outlook. Currently the Outlook Import Wizard only supports importing ECCO versions 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0.

RESOLUTION

Save the ECCO File in CSV Format

To save the file in .CSV format, follow these steps:
  1. In ECCO, save the file in .csv format. Under File, Database, Export, click to select Mail Merge Header.
  2. In Outlook, on the File menu, click Import and Export.
  3. In the Import and Export Wizard, click "Import from another program or file" and click Next.
  4. Click "Comma Separated Values (Windows)," and click Next.
  5. Click to select the .csv file to be imported and click Next.
  6. Click to select the destination folder and click Next.
  7. Confirm that the options under "The following actions will be performed" are correct and click Finish.
