OL98: ErrMsg "Unable to start processing services" Starting Outlook (185811)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Outlook 98 under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 95, you may receive the following error:
Unable to start processing services.

CAUSE

You have a damaged Offitems.log file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, rename the Offitems.log file.

  1. Quit Outlook.
  2. Click the Start button, point to Find and then click Files or Folders.
  3. Type "Offitems.log" in the Named field. By default this file is located on your C:\ drive.
  4. Click Find Now.
  5. When you locate the Offitems.log file, on the File menu, click Rename. Change the filename to Offitems.old.
  6. On the File menu, click Close.
  7. Restart Outlook.
