IEAK: Add Component Returns Error 404 Not Found (185550)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to add a component to Internet Explorer, the following error message may appear:
Error HTTP/1.0 404 Object Not Found

CAUSE

This error occurs if the file Addonnt.htm is not in the .../ie4site/en directory. (The "en" refers to "English".)

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem occurs when you do the following:
  1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove programs.
  2. Click Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, and then click Add.
  3. Click Add a Component to Internet Explorer, and click OK.
This problem occurs when you add a component only if Internet Explorer was built from the Internet Explorer Administration Kit.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:

Method 1

Specify the location of the Addonnt.htm file when you build the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) package.

Method 2

Manually copy the Addonnt.htm file to the ie4site/en directory.
